It is gratifying to consider the promise of settings that communicate a strong sense of place and relevance. I search for this in the often divergent and contrasting paradigms within my surroundings. As I take inventory of these surroundings, I notice the joyous and the beleaguered, the pristine and the tainted, the untouchable and the accessible.

Do the people, places and institutions within my observation successfully fulfill desired notions of self-discovery?

Are the challenges to these objectives posed by a set of varied and changing realities surmountable?

The conversation I intend to enter centers around searching out, as well as questioning the sustainability of concepts related to growth and pleasure that I consider meaningful.
